This course meets MO DHSS regulations (19 CSR 30-84.030) for the classroom portion of the LIMA. It will require clinical practice by a qualified instructor in the facility, and a final examination and practicum administered by a qualified LIMA. It includes Insulin Administration.
Student qualifications:
Any individual employable by an RCF or ALF to be involved in direct resident care shall be eligible to enroll as a student in the course. Employable shall mean an individual who is at least eighteen (18) years of age and meets the employability criteria pursuant to the provisions of 19 CSR 30-86.042, 19 CSR 30-86.043, or 19 CSR 30-86.047.
Any individual employable in a DMH facility to be involved in direct resident care shall be eligible to enroll as a student in the course. Employable shall mean an individual who meets the employability criteria pursuant to the provisions of 9 CSR 10-5.190.
Prior to starting the class, students need to have 2 TB skin tests within 20 days of each other. These can be done at your local doctor’s office, minute clinic or health department. A background check should done if you have not had one done within the past 3 months. You can do one through the Highway Patrol by calling our office at 573.893.2060 with a cost of $17.50.

Instructor bio:
Janet M. Wolken, MBA, BSN
Janet Wolken is a highly experienced nursing professional and healthcare administrator with over three decades of expertise spanning clinical care, compliance, quality assurance, and regulatory oversight. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northeast Missouri State University and an MBA in Health Management from William Woods University.
Most recently, Janet served as Director of Compliance for the Missouri State Board of Nursing (2006–2025), where she led the statewide disciplinary program, provided regulatory oversight for licensees, coordinated with legal teams, and educated healthcare employers on disciplinary processes. Her role involved reviewing investigative reports, medical records, and legislation to ensure adherence to the Missouri Nurse Practice Act.
Her career also includes leadership positions such as Practice Administrator for the Missouri State Board of Nursing, Quality Assurance Coordinator and Surveillance Specialist with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, and Charge Nurse roles in both hospital and long-term care settings. Earlier in her career, she worked extensively in rehabilitation nursing, case management, and nursing education.
Janet’s commitment to professional development is reflected in her completion of the Legal Nurse Consultant Training Course (2023) and prior certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse.
Throughout her career, Janet has combined clinical expertise with regulatory insight to improve patient safety, support nursing practice, and uphold healthcare standards across Missouri.
