Session Information:
When the appropriate ICD-10 code is captured, this has a positive impact on Medicare reimbursement. This class will help identify areas in the PDPM model to enhance your facility’s reimbursement. Do not miss this rare opportunity to have your staff learn how to make a positive difference in reimbursement as well as documentation for your facility.
This session is designed for both individuals new to their role in ICD-10 coding and those who have some experience but need to further their ICD-10 coding knowledge.
In this 2-day workshop, attendees will:
- Review ICD-10 CM basics including navigating ICD-10 coding books.
- Review ICD-10 coding guidelines.
- Review using documentation to support ICD-10 coding.
- Review of selection of principal/primary diagnosis
- Examine PDPM specifics including clinical categories, SLP and NTA comorbidities and mapping.
- Discuss how to apply coding guidelines to long-term care specific coding scenarios to select appropriate diagnoses.

Chris has worked at large and mid-sized health care facilities in many roles where she gained a thorough understanding of health information management. Her coding career includes working in hospitals as both an employee and a consultant. Her work with Skilled Nursing Facilities includes medical record compliance reviews and ICD-10 coding support, audits and education. She helped author education programs for ICD-10 coding in preparation for PDPM and has served as an instructor for ICD-10 education.

The Federal Review Course for Nursing Home Administrators Exam is to help attendee prepare for the nursing home administrator federal licensure exam. Review Course material have been revised and updated to reflect the structure of the current examination.

The purpose of the Review Course is to help attendees prepare for the nursing home administrator federal licensure exam. Theoretical, philosophical and practical aspects of long term care administration are discussed. The instructor will review sample test questions from the study book, which is provided free to all attendees. Study tips will be suggested throughout the workshop, therefore it is recommended that attendees allow sufficient time to study on their own after attending the review course before sitting for the exam. Review course materials have been revised and updated to reflect the structure of the current examination. Prior to the workshop, it is essential the attendee understands concepts and principles involved in the long term care industry. Individuals who intend to take the licensure exam must first apply with the Missouri Board of Nursing Home Administrators (573-751-3511).

- Mona Dortch, RN – Mona is a licensed nursing home administrator and has taught seminars on a variety of long term care topics including mock surveys & Medicare training throughout the US.
Recommended Textbook
The book, Principles of Health Care Administration, is used as a basis for much of the course material dealing with the federal portion of the exam. Textbooks are available through Professional Printing & Publishing (online at www.ppandp.com) or for purchase from MHCA. A limited number of books will be available for purchase onsite at each workshop.

This session will dive into essential operational and administrative topics, such as Requirements of Participation (ROPs), the survey process, CASPER reports (including how to access them), the Five-Star Quality Rating System (all three domains), Care Compare, QAPI, and much more! You’ll also learn about the various resources at your disposal.

Presenters:
Nicky Martin – Nicky is the QIPMO team leader and functions as our NHA Coach in southeast Missouri and several counties in the central and southwestern regions of Missouri. With over 26 years of experience in LTC, she’s seen and done it all. She began her LTC career as a business office manager in a 60-bed skilled nursing facility in 1996 and was promoted to administrator in 2001. Nicky serves as an advisor to administrators, DONs, corporate directors, CFOs, and CEOs on all facets of CMS regulations from facility assessments to operational management. Nicky holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.
Mark Francis – Mark is the QIPMO leadership coach for the west and southwest region of MO. He received a Master of Science degree in Psychology in 1984 and began his career as a counselor and coach working with couples and families. Mark has worked exclusively with the elderly for over 20 years. He directed a geriatric behavioral health unit for 10 years and has been a nursing home administrator since 2007. As an administrator, he built a team that worked together to receive multiple successful surveys. Mark is experienced in all aspects of long-term care leadership including building operations, financial performance, clinical outcomes, and team building. As a QIPMO leadership coach, Mark is committed to providing the training, tools, and encouragement for all staff – from frontline to leadership – to become their best.

C3 De-escalation is an immediate, short-term intervention that increases cooperation with patients, improves CMS compliance and decreases stress on staff. C3 makes use of little-used brain research from Yale, combined with practical fieldwork from Chicago and health care facilities around the country.
C3 is non-contact and respectful, in line with Trauma Informed Care. This workshop is user-friendly, taught in plain language. We often hear that people use C3 the next day.
C3 is appropriate for patients with:
- Mental health issues
- Drug or alcohol issues
- History of homelessness or incarceration
- Dementia
- Intellectual or developmental disabilities
Course Objectives:
- Learn Trauma-Informed techniques for use with patients with mental health, substance use, or other challenging conditions.
- Create a proactive plan personalized to your needs and working conditions.
- Identify signs of heightening stress in oneself and colleagues, and de-escalate accordingly.
Speaker:
Patti Treibel-Leeds, M.S., is a C3 De-Escalation Master trainer. She has instructed over two thousand participants in C3 De-Escalation, particularly those working with patients with mental health, substance use disorders, or intellectual disabilities.
Patti was Planning and Development Officer for a 15-county mental health region in central Iowa, and was Quality Assurance Officer for the same region. She was a licensed Social Worker, and holds a MS in Human Services.

Pre-registration is required for all workshops. Payment/registration must be received by noon the day before the workshop begins. Company checks are money orders should be made payable to MHCA. Credit card payments are accepted, we accept Visa, MasterCard & American Express. We do offer a billing option for MHCA Members only. We do not accept personal checks.
Cancellations/Refunds
Refunds will be issued to registrants who cancel in writing within 48 hours of the workshop. Cancellations received after this time and no-shows will be charged the full registration fee.
