Burla Lillie, resident of the Villages of Jackson Creek, in Independence, will be 105 on June 2.  She is widowed, has four children, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren!

She listed her previous hobbies as dancing, being around children, cooking, talking on the phone, quilting, and playing Bingo.  Now she enjoys being around dogs, exercise, socializing and getting people together to listen to music.

She attributes her longevity to working hard and not taking an early retirement.  "I have always loved all people, even the bad ones and saw the good in them that others refused to see.  Keeping a positive attitude towards life" also helps.

Her advice to others is that you never grow old until you give in to it.  Don't worry about turning 40 or 50, just live and love it!

When asked about turning 105, Burla said, "I think turning 105 is wonderful.  I still am able to find all the wonderful things in life to appreciate."

Burla owned multiple restaurants in the Kansas City area and owned one of the first soft serve ice cream machines in Kansas City.
