This course is designed to train certified nurse aides (CNAs) in the efficient restorative care of residents in nursing homes.
The goal is to improve the quality of resident care through information and training.
This course does not replace the training required of a registered or licensed professional whose education extends beyond the outcomes listed in the syllabus.
Upon completion of this course, students will learn:
- What a rehabilitation unit is and how it functions.
- The effects of aging, inactivity, and disability.
- Basic anatomy and how the body moves.
- Medical problems that interfere with functional independence.
- How to assist residents in ways that promote independence.
- What to look for when helping someone walk.
- How to help someone perform basic exercises.
- Common rehabilitation equipment.
- Basic balance responses and activities to improve balance.
- Ways to interact effectively with residents.
